Improving Hand Hygiene in
Hospital Ward
Healthcare workers are expected to not only clean, but to disinfect their hands to prevent the potential spread of infection. While there are clear guidelines that this should be done in at least five moments throughout the course of their work with a patient, complying with these guidelines remains a challenge. Considering the particular challenges that staff may face throughout their day and the influence of networks, participants used behavioural insights to nudge clinical staff to use alcohol rubs. Moreover, they also worked to develop interventions to foster a speak up culture that would allow patients, doctors and nurses to speak up with confidence when someone does not follow the guidelines.
