Creating Value of Personal Data Among Online Users

Data is now frequently called the new oil, and with good reason. As a society we generate more data than ever through our phones, wearables, and application usage. This often sensitive data is also at the core of the business models of several big companies. Corporations around the world are willing to pay hefty sums to access user data. Yet users themselves do very little to prevent their data to be used and abused or even make use of it themselves to improve their decision-making. A set of challenges surrounding this issue was approached including how to nudge users to take ownership of their data, consider alternative systems to store it and raise awareness of the data collected, its value and uses.
