Reducing Celebratory Gunfire Shooting

A controversial, but well-accepted tradition in several Arab countries like Lebanon is that of celebratory shooting, where individuals shoot in the air to express their feelings during certain public events. This mortal tradition causes unwanted casualties and injuries every year, which led the government to ban it in 2016. Despite this, celebratory shooting remains a widespread phenomenon. Viewing it through behavioural science lenses, participants took social norms and biases into consideration to design intervention that would encourage people to report the shooters and prompt gun carriers to use their weapons more responsibly.
